The end of gender?
“Non-binary.” A new concept buzzing in the media and online.
Non-binary people identify neither as man nor woman, sometimes as one or the other, sometimes both. According to a YouGov survey, 14% of French people aged 18-44 do not see themselves as part of a traditional male/female binary. Is this a fad or a new social reality? Is gender doomed to disappear?
This 52-minute documentary is an intimate journey to understand without judging. In a cross-portrait style, it introduces Ange, Sophie, Persephone, and Lou. Four singular journeys filmed over a year.
Birth of a child, love, family incomprehension, taking hormones to align body and identity… Each offers themselves unvarnished to the camera. For them, non-binary is liberation but also a struggle.
The minimalist commentary gives space to powerful words. The characters seek neither to convince nor please, only to share their truth. As the narrative unfolds, their questions become universal: today, what is feminine, what is masculine?
