Un an pour vaincre l'obésité
A portrait of four teenagers engaged in a struggle against obesity that is as physical as it is personal.
For several months, cameras follow them at the Antrenas Pediatric Health Center of Excellence in Lozère, one of the few facilities in France to offer long-term care for childhood obesity. Here, there are no “miracle diets”: thanks to its comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach, the medical team takes into account not only the young people’s physical health, but also—and perhaps above all—their mental health.
Throughout their journey, they speak of bullying, fatphobia, and the adults’ inability to protect them, but also of the progress and hopes that keep them going. For each young person, the experience is different. Not all of them will win the battle against the pounds. But each will seek to rediscover what they lack most: self-esteem.
Through their stories, this film offers a sensitive look at a public health crisis that today affects nearly one in five teenagers in France. Because ultimately, the real challenge isn’t just losing weight… but learning to love oneself.
